2015 Hugo Ceremony Coverage Plans

The 2015 Hugo Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 8 PM Pacific Daylight Time in the INB Performing Arts Center in Spokane, Washington. The Hugo Awards web site will once again offer text-based coverage of the 2015 Hugo Awards ceremony via CoverItLive, suitable for people with bandwidth restrictions. For those with the bandwidth for it, Sasquan will also offer live video streaming of the 2015 Hugo Awards ceremony via UStream. In addition, Sasquan will present “The Road to the Hugos”, a livestreamed Internet pre-and-post Hugo broadcast featuring hosts Stephen Schapansky and Warren Frey of Radio Free Skaro, as part of the coverage, starting one hour before and ending one hour after the ceremony.

The Hugo Awards web site coverage team of Kevin Standlee, Mur Lafferty, and Cheryl Morgan will be “on the air” approximately fifteen minutes before the ceremony. You can sign up at the CoverItLive event site for an e-mail notification before the event starts. Remember that the CoverItLive text coverage is text-only, and is likely to not be in synch with the video streaming.

If you can’t be in Spokane, we hope you’ll join us on CoverItLive or watch the ceremony on UStream as ceremony hosts David Gerrold and Tananarive Due present what some think may be the most highly-anticipated Hugo Awards announcement in the long history of the Awards.

    1. The CoverItLive coverage will be available for replay. The UStream video streaming has been available for replay in the past, so we assume that it will be available for replay later as well.

      1. Kevin, the UStream video does not appear to have been kept available on the above linked page. We can view the Nominations video from this year and last year’s ceremony, but not this year’s.

        1. We’re aware of this. TheHugoAwards.org does not manage the streaming video (that’s done by the individual Worldcon committees). We’ve been advised by Sasquan that they have raw video files from their own internal sources, but not the combined final video. If and when a version available for public release is made available, we’ll announce it and change the links on the site.

Almost everything about the Hugo Awards is actually run by individual Worldcon committees, not by a central authority. All we can do here is maintain the lists of winners and finalists and serve as a historical clearinghouse for data. Next year’s Hugo Awards will be administered by the 2016 Worldcon, MidAmericon II, and they will be responsible for the administration of the Awards, the organization of the ceremony, and any live video streaming and recordings of the ceremony. TheHugoAwards.org provides the text-only CoverItLive webcast only.

  1. What the hell is this crap about a puppy group controlling the nominations this year? Just the attempt (now success) has fouled the winners awards this year, deserving or not. If those who control the Hugo’s have any integrity they will correct this situation. Damn right wing conservatives are trying to rule everybody’s minds, reminds me of 1984.

  2. Mixed emotions. I don’t think Orwell, Asimov, or any our past great authors would want us to support this at this time. Hugo, himself, would probably be ashamed.

  3. I’d like to believe that those who have spoiled their ballots will be in the majority, and that the WorldCon organizers will have the good sense and courage to make a statement against these reactionary arseholes.
Not going to happen though, is it?
The Hugo awards used to mean something. They use to mean that, at the very least, the nominees would would be an interesting read or a worthwhile watch. Now they are forever tainted by a bunch of Conservative imbeciles. Well done guys. You have degraded the mediums you represent, you are a blight on fandom and you are an embarrassment to yourselves.
