Interesting. I’ve just read Little Brother by Mr. Doctorow and Old Man’s War by Mr. Scalzi… I’ve been attempting to read the field of the past few years of hugo nominations and winners.
Too see how ‘far’ away I am in my own opinions! These choices seem quite good though, and I look forward to reading each of these… I must say though that I’m only interested in Science Fiction, with a capital S when it comes to the Hugo. Flights of fancy and ‘historical’ interpretations of Earth from well regarded plain Fiction Writers are not, in my opinion Science Fiction.
So these five look to be actual writers of science fiction. Good!
We shall see.

Wow! The Dresden Files: Welcome to the Jungle got nominated. That’s the graphic novel that was inspired by Jim Butcher wondering about something discussed on The Dresden Files TV series when Murphy mentions ‘That mess at the zoo.’ That graphic novel was the first ‘cross pollination’ of the show and books. Considering a story inspired from the show is up for a Hugo Award I bet the Scifi Channel is kicking themselves for not continuing the TV series.
